Isabella Kelley, an upcoming senior at East Knox High School, represented Knox County at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) National Leadership Conference.
Kelley advanced to Nationals after earning first place in Ohio’s Sustainability Challenge speech category at the state competition in April.
Her winning speech, which focused on sustainability solutions, received one of the highest scores in the state and secured her spot among 47 Ohio students traveling to Washington, D.C. Kelley is the only student from Knox County to qualify for Nationals this year.
The National Leadership Conference, held July 6–10, brings together thousands of student leaders from across the country. Participants compete in STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition), attend leadership workshops, and hear from keynote speakers. Kelley will present her speech before national judges and join peers in sessions designed to strengthen skills in public speaking, problem‑solving, and community leadership.
FCCLA’s Sustainability Challenge encourages students to address pressing environmental issues through innovative projects and persuasive communication. Kelley’s success at the state level highlights both her dedication to sustainability and her ability to inspire action through words.
