The Danville varsity softball team defeated Northmor 8–3 in Wednesday’s home conference matchup, continuing their strong start to the 2026 season.
Played on April 15, the game unfolded at Danville’s home field, where the Blue Devils capitalized on timely hitting and a decisive fifth‑inning surge to secure the victory.
Danville opened with runs in the first and second innings, establishing early control. The bats then erupted in the fifth, producing six runs that broke the game open. Northmor attempted a rally in the sixth, plating three runs, but the Blue Devils’ defense held firm to close out the contest. The final line showed Danville with eight runs on nine hits and no errors, while Northmor managed three runs on five hits but committed four costly errors.
The program spotlighted freshman catcher and first baseman Morgan Hinkens, who delivered one of the game’s defining moments. Hinkens blasted a three‑run home run against Northmor, energizing the team and crowd. Earlier in the game, she nearly added a grand slam, but a leaping catch at the fence by Northmor’s center fielder denied her. The team congratulated her performance, noting her resilience and impact at the plate.
"Tonight Morgan Hinkens hit a 3 run Bomb against Northmor," the program proudly stated. "The wind and a great catch into the fence by their center fielder robbed her of a grand slam the at bat before. Way to go kid!!"
This victory continued Danville’s recent success against Northmor. Last season, on April 21, 2025, the Blue Devils earned a 3–1 road win in Galion, showing consistency in conference play.
Looking ahead, Danville will host Fredericktown on Tuesday, April 28 at 5:15 p.m. in another conference matchup. The Blue Devils have history on their side: in 2025, they defeated Fredericktown twice, winning 10–3 on May 2 and 13–6 on May 5. Those results underscore Danville’s offensive depth and ability to produce runs across the lineup.
Wednesday’s win not only reinforced Danville’s competitive edge but also highlighted the contributions of younger players stepping into key roles. With momentum building and confidence high, the Blue Devils will aim to extend their success as the season progresses, continuing to showcase the blend of power hitting, defensive steadiness, and team spirit that has defined their program.
