Historic night: McKinney breaks school record in blowout win

The Utica boys basketball team had a record-setting game against Granville Christian Academy, winning with a score of 77-42.

The game was played on February 14 at 5th Street Gym, GCA’s home court.

Utica pulled ahead early, winning 17-10 after one quarter of play. The Redskins widened the margin in the second, scoring fifteen points compared to Granville Christian’s twelve, making the score 32-22 at halftime. Utica fired up their offense in the third quarter, scoring twenty-four points, double the points that GCA scored, and raised their lead to 56-34. The Redskins continued their aggressive offense until the end of the game, scoring twenty-one points in the final quarter to solidify their win at 77-42.

Utica’s Hunter McKinney had a historic night, breaking the school record for single-game points with fourty-four points on the night. McKinney scored the majority of his points in the second half, with fourteen in the third and fifteen in the fourth.

Granville Christian’s top scorer was senior Josh Benvie, with thirteen.

Utica’s final games of the regular season are against Mount Vernon at home last Feb. 17, and away against Fredericktown on Feb. 20.

The last time that these two teams played each other was almost exactly a year apart. Utica played Granville Christian on the Redskin’s senior night on Feb. 13, winning 60-49.
