The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's and women's track and field teams excelled at the Muskie Meet, hosted by Muskingum University on January 31. Both teams secured first place, with the men scoring 176 points out of nine teams and the women achieving 164 points against ten competitors.
Key performances from the men's team included Tyler Shipley, who reached the NAIA A Standard in pole vaulting with a 4.85m vault, finishing second. Evan Hodkinson won the 1000m, meeting the NAIA B Standard with a time of 2:29.69. Samuel Haley, Ryan Lehman, and Daron Porter each took first in their respective events: the 400m (50.85), 800m (1:59.97), and one mile (4:28.33). The men's 4x400m relay team also claimed victory with a time of 3:32.09.
On the women's side, Leah Cooper set a school record in the 60m dash with a time of 7.91 seconds. Maddy Lengacher, Tammy Liplin, Louisa Hallabrin, Makenna Langford, Isabel Henderson, and Shyanne Moser all secured first-place finishes in their events. The women's relay team also won their race with a time of 4:08.64.
Mount Vernon Nazarene University will participate next in the Bob Shannon Invitational at Denison University on February 7.
