Mt. Vernon Fights Hard in Road Test Against Licking Valley

The Mt. Vernon Yellowjackets faced a challenging game on Friday night, ultimately losing 58-13 to the Licking Valley team in Newark. Despite the defeat, Mt. Vernon demonstrated potential in their offensive play and ongoing development from both senior leaders and emerging underclassmen.

The game occurred on October 17, 2025, at Licking Valley High School. According to reports, Mt. Vernon began the match with determination, managing to tie the score at 7-7 in the first quarter. Senior quarterback Mason Richards played a pivotal role by throwing for 42 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 68 yards and another score. Sophomore Greyson Deem contributed significantly by catching a 19-yard touchdown pass and amassing 53 all-purpose yards.

On special teams, seniors Ben Fitzpatrick and Bryce Kreager were instrumental in securing advantageous field positions with return gains of 63 and 41 yards, respectively. The Yellowjackets also displayed improved discipline by committing fewer penalties compared to previous games.

Although Mt. Vernon did not secure a victory, their effort and persistence were notable. With young players stepping up alongside veteran leadership, the Yellowjackets remain committed to building momentum as they aim to conclude the season positively.
