Mount Vernon FFA members have advanced to the State Soils Contest after competing in the District Soils Career Development Event (CDE) on September 30 in Rushville, Ohio. The event gathered teams from across the region to assess their skills in soil evaluation and land-use decision-making.
The Mount Vernon FFA Urban Soils Team placed third, while the Rural/Agricultural Soils Team finished fifth at the district level. Both teams earned recognition and qualified for the upcoming state contest.
Team members for the Urban team included Izzy Barron, Phoebe Mussard, Calleigh Armstrong, Colton Stagg, and Simon Ruprecht. The Rural team consisted of Madison Seng, McKenzie Herdman, Ryan Fletcher, Charles Page, and Zachary Busenberg.
Several individuals from Mount Vernon also achieved top-10 finishes in the district competition: Izzy Barron placed third, Madison Seng was sixth, and Phoebe Mussard finished tenth.
“The district contest is always a big step up in competition, and I’m proud of how our students represented Mount Vernon,” said Stephanie Plumly, FFA advisor. “Qualifying both teams for state is a huge accomplishment.”
Both teams will participate in the State Soils Contest scheduled for October 11.
