Age 89, Gina Mortley, devoted wife, mother, aunt, and friend, of Centerburg Ohio passed away on September 15, 2025.
Born and raised in Clintonville, she was a proud, 1953 graduate of North High School.
On October 1, 1960, she married her love and best friend, Loyal Hess “Rusty” Mortley.
Together they built a marriage and family of 65 years, rooted in faith, laughter, and devotion.
Gina was deeply active in both the Clintonville and Centerburg communities as a homemaker and farmer, carrying a generous spirit into everything she did. A devout Catholic, she was a longtime parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church (where she and Rusty were married) and later at the Church of the Nativity in Utica, OH. She was also a dedicated member of TWIG #113 and the Ohio Farm Bureau. And, of course, an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan!
Those who knew her will remember Gina as the kindest, sweetest person they ever met. Along with Rusty, she shared their love of raising sheep and life on the Mortley Farm with adults and kids alike. Lambing in the Spring was always a favorite visiting time for all. Her simple keys to life and a lasting marriage: “laugh a lot.” As Dad keeps saying “We sure had fun.”
Gina is survived by her husband of 65 years, Loyal Hess “Rusty” Mortley, daughter & son-in-law Molly Mortley Reed and Russell Reed II of Centerburg, along with son Samuel Joseph Mortley, of Clintonville. Grandchildren Maggie Loyal Onstott (Hayden Normann) of Centerburg; Earl Onstott (Stephanie), Abby Onstott Ryan (Kevin), Matt Onstott, and their father Thomas Onstott all of Worthington; and Shelby Reed of Columbus, son of Russell Reed II. Great grandchildren Gareth Onstott, Elliot & Leonard Ryan. Also “The Gang” from North High and so many loving nieces-especially Gina Lynn Clifford, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.
She is predeceased by her parents Joseph and Winnie Miller Populin, sister Mary Jo Clifford, and parents “in-love” Loyal Hawkins and Clara Hess Mortley. She will be dearly missed, but her life and love will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew her.
“Praise God everyday.”
