Mount Vernon High School has been recognized as the top high school in Knox County, according to the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings. The school is ranked #134 among all high schools in Ohio and holds the highest position within Knox County.
In addition to its county ranking, Mount Vernon High School placed second overall in the Licking County League. The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce also ranked it #2 among 20 comparable districts statewide, highlighting its strong academic programs and student outcomes.
The rankings were determined by several criteria, including academic performance, college readiness, state assessments, graduation rates, and student-teacher ratios. The school’s consistent results across these measures reflect ongoing efforts from students, faculty, and staff.
Principal Cory Caughlan commented on the achievement: “We are incredibly proud of our students, faculty, and staff for these remarkable achievements. These rankings reflect the hard work, dedication, and collaborative spirit that define our school community. We are committed to continuing to provide an exceptional educational experience for all our students.”
Mount Vernon High School offers advanced placement courses, college-credit options, career technical education opportunities, extracurricular activities, clubs, and athletic programs aimed at developing leadership skills and encouraging community involvement.
As the new academic year begins for 2025–2026, this recognition highlights what can be achieved through collective effort within a school community.
