Football season is set to commence in Mount Vernon as the Fighting Jackets unite both youth and varsity athletes for the anticipated Jackets Football Fest.
The event is scheduled for Tuesday, August 19, at Fighting Jackets Stadium and will feature the 7th and 8th-grade teams competing against Zanesville Middle School. According to organizers, festivities will begin at 5 p.m. with the kickoff of the 7th-grade game. At 6:30 p.m., fans will have an opportunity to meet the high school varsity players, followed by official introductions at 7 p.m. under the stadium lights. Youth players will have a unique chance to be the first Jackets to run onto the field through the tunnel, bringing additional energy and pride to the evening.
More than just a football event, it is designed to celebrate the Mount Vernon football community with family-friendly activities, including games, giveaways, and prizes. Organizers aim to create an atmosphere that blends school spirit, athletic development, and local engagement.
According to organizers, the matchup against Zanesville signifies more than just a game—it marks the beginning of a new era for Fighting Jackets football. With support from both the youth league and high school program, they are laying a foundation for future success and unity across all levels.
Fans are encouraged to fill the stands and display their black and orange pride as the next generation of Jackets steps onto the field for this season's first time.
