Marjorie Kerr Moore died on April 12, 2025, in Hardeeville, SC, at age 89 following a brief illness. She was the widow of Bert C. Moore, a career Foreign Service officer who was one of the 52 Americans held hostage at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, Iran, from 1979 to 1981.

She was born and raised in Mount Vernon, Ohio, but after meeting her future husband at Ohio State University, she toured the world with him. During a life in the Foreign Service that took them to nine countries on three continents, Marjorie raised four children and managed the Moore household.

She returned to the paid working world in Kinshasa, Zaire, where she worked as assistant commissary manager alongside her dear friend Beverly Wiley.

Marjorie served with her husband at U.S. consulates and embassies in Canada, Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), Malawi, France, Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo), Spain, Nigeria, Indonesia, and India. She loved to travel and visited more than forty countries on six continents during her lifetime.

She was predeceased by her husband, Bert Moore; her son, Stuart; and her sister, Louise Kerr Hare. She is survived by four children—David (Melody), Bob (Mary), Diane (Tom), and Charles (Sue)—and five grandchildren: Andrew, Nicholas, Dylan, Melissa, and Diane.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on June 21, 2025, at Gay Street United Methodist Church, 18 N. Gay Street, Mount Vernon, Ohio.
