Donald R. Leichner, 77, of Fredericktown, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the Country Court Nursing Center in Mount Vernon after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born November 15, 1947, in Columbus to the late Clarence and Easter (Daniels) Leichner.

Don, a true master of his crafts, leaves behind a legacy of creativity, skill, and generosity. A talented machinist and master welder, he was known for his precision and remarkable ability to bring ideas to life. His inventive spirit was matched only by his dedication to excellence in every project he touched.

Beyond his mechanical gifts, Don possessed a gentle artistic soul. He was an accomplished pencil artist with a keen eye for detail, and his watercolor and oil paintings reflected his deep appreciation for color and beauty. Each piece he created was a reflection of his thoughtful nature and boundless imagination.

Donald also had a profound connection to his community in Waterford. He found purpose and joy in helping his Amish neighbors, frequently providing rides with kindness and a generous heart. His compassion, creativity, and quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Kimberly (Steward) Leichner, whom he married on April 2, 1977; and by his children: Donnetta (Shawn) Loomis of Reynoldsburg, Carol (John) Dages of Canal Winchester, Ronda Bircher of Fredericktown, Kevin (Christina Canter) Leichner of Marion, Jamey (Julie) Lundy of Portsmouth, and Donald Michael (Annie Smith) Leichner of Mount Vernon.

He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, his brother Larry (Connie) Leichner of Lebanon, VA, niece Linda (Henry) Sumerlott of Florida, many other nieces and nephews, and his former son-in-law William Bircher of Fredericktown.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his daughter, Denise Johnson; his brothers, Floyd Daniels, Chuck Leichner, and Bill Leichner; and his sisters, Betty Lou Sumerlott, Dolores Brill, Wanda McDonald, and Rosemary Leichner.

The family will hold a private service at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to assist with medical expenses via the family's GoFundMe page.
