A late sacrifice bunt by Vince Lavin secured a 4–3 victory for Fredericktown over Centerburg in a competitive game on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the game report, with the score tied in the top of the seventh inning, Lavin's bunt drove in the go-ahead run, clinching the win for the Freddies. Fredericktown initially took the lead in the fourth inning when Cole Burnside singled down the left field line and Zane Luckmeier followed with a double to center. Both hits resulted in runs for Fredericktown.
Centerburg managed to tie the game in the fifth inning with a run-scoring single and a wild pitch. Kaine Sheriff earned the win for Fredericktown, allowing four hits and three runs—two of which were earned—over five innings. He struck out five batters and walked one. Brode Davis closed out the final two innings, striking out four without allowing any hits or walks.
Despite a strong performance, Centerburg’s pitcher took the loss. He pitched a complete game, giving up four runs—only one of which was earned—on eight hits, while striking out eight batters with no walks. Luckmeier and Sheriff each contributed an RBI for Fredericktown. Jayce Beeman led at the plate for Fredericktown, going 2-for-4.
Fredericktown is set to return to action on Friday at home against Danville.
