Standout performances fuel Yellow Jackets’ big win in quad meet victory

Mount Vernon truck and field sprints to victory at quad meet | KnowCountyOhio

Mount Vernon High School's track and field teams commenced their 2025 season with a commanding performance at the Northridge High School Quad +1 Meet on Tuesday. Both the boys' and girls' teams secured first-place finishes, with the girls accumulating 139 points and the boys achieving 145.

The meet featured teams from Northridge, Lakewood, Heath, Mount Vernon, and Millersport. According to reports, Mount Vernon's athletes excelled in various events. For the girls' team, sophomore Savannah Rose won the 100-meter hurdles and contributed to the first-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay. She also placed fourth in the 100 meters and fifth in the 200 meters.

Fellow sophomore Nadia Nougi achieved first place in both the long jump and 4x100 relay, while securing third place in both the 100 meters and 200 meters. Junior Lucy Rush dominated distance events by winning both the 800 meters and 1,600 meters races, as well as anchoring the runner-up team in the 4x400 relay.

Other notable performances for the girls included Kennedy Howard's victory in pole vaulting, Cora Rickett's win in the 300 hurdles, and Khloee Bradley's success in shot put.

On the boys' side, senior Madox Baker delivered an impressive performance by winning four events: the 100 meters, 200 meters, and both the 4x100 and 4x200 relays. Ben Fitzpatrick claimed victories in long jump and was part of the winning team for the 4x100 relay; he also took second place in pole vaulting. Senior Brady Wiles secured first place in high jump as well as both relays (4x200 and 4x400), finishing second in the 300 hurdles.

Brady Mills added wins to his record by excelling in both individual (400 meters) and team events (4x200 and 4x400 relays). The successful relay team comprising Thomas Sant, Fitzpatrick, Sami Lacksonen, and Baker also took first place. Senior Dakota Wagner triumphed in shot put while Kalman Kanuckel contributed to a victorious outcome for his squad during their participation within this particular event category too.

"This was our season opener," said head coach Kathy Thayer. "I am proud of their hard work; great attitudes have shown progress since preseason."

Mount Vernon is scheduled next at Newark Invitational on Saturday April fifth.
