Northridge Softball Coach James Sims | James Sims

As the Northridge Vikings varsity softball team prepares for the upcoming season, head coach James Sims is eager to continue the program’s development and make an impact on his players—just as his coaches once did for him.

"I always wanted to be a coach growing up," Sims said. "I wanted to pass my knowledge of the game down to the younger generation and have the same impact my coaches had on me." Now entering his third year leading the Vikings, Sims is excited about the team’s progress and expects to see even more growth this season. "I’m most excited to see the continued growth we have shown the last two years," he said.

The Vikings will look to key players such as Kaylee Goodwin, Kaitlyn Angus, Josie Van Fossen, and Ellie Reese to make a difference on the field. According to Sims, these athletes will be ones to watch throughout the season. With a focus on improving offensive production and teamwork, he expects noticeable improvements from last year’s squad. "More hits and runs scored, better communication out on the field," Sims said when asked what changes fans can expect this season.

For Sims, coaching is about more than just wins and losses. His motivation comes from a desire to foster a positive environment and help grow the sport for future generations. "I want to continue the growth of this sport in a positive way," he said. As the Vikings take the field this season, Sims and his players are determined to build on their progress and make their mark.
