Northridge Track & Field Head Coach Richard Featheringill | Richard Featheringill

Richard Featheringill, with a decade of coaching experience and a deep-rooted passion for running, is set to lead the Northridge Vikings track and field team into what he anticipates could be a breakout season.

Featheringill, who competed in track and cross country throughout college, has developed a strong love for the sport. "I ran track and cross country all the way through college and developed a deep love for the sports," Featheringill said.

According to Featheringill, this passion has translated into a growing program, particularly on the boys’ side, where he has assembled the largest team in his 11 years of coaching. He is optimistic about what this season could bring, especially with the hard work his athletes have put in during the offseason. "I have a premier group of athletes that are poised to compete at the highest level, and they have been putting in a ton of work to be even better," he said. "I feel like we are ready for a breakout season."

The Vikings have several standout athletes to watch this season. Senior Isabel Evans is the defending state champion in the 100-meter hurdles and runner-up in the 300-meter hurdles. Junior Ava Travis returns as a state qualifier in the 400-meter dash, while senior Nathan Burkey placed at regionals in the 110-meter hurdles. Sophomore Xave Fiamingo is back after qualifying for regionals in the shot put, and senior Bodhi Foster aims to build on his regional qualifying performance in the pole vault. Distance runner Courtney Bevier, a senior, also returns after competing at regionals in the 1,600-meter run.

With a team of dedicated athletes, Featheringill finds motivation in their effort and commitment every day. "The kids that work so hard to be their best," he said. "It’s an honor to be able to coach such incredible individuals." As the season gets underway, the Vikings are setting their sights on success at the highest level, ready to make their mark on both track and field.
