The Fredericktown Freddies defeated the Cardington-Lincoln Pirates, 70-61, in boys basketball action on December 11.
The Freddies held a 34-29 lead at halftime and maintained control throughout the second half, shooting an impressive 53.2 percent from the field. In contrast, Cardington-Lincoln struggled offensively, finishing the game shooting just 33.3 percent.
Fredericktown capitalized on its strong inside game, scoring 44 of its 70 points in the paint. The Freddies also contributed 8 points off transition opportunities and went 17-of-23 from the free-throw line to help secure the victory.
Gavin Toombs led all scorers with 26 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Blake Sipes added 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists, while Carson Rinehart contributed 10 points and 4 assists to the win.
Cardington-Lincoln’s leading scorer was AJ Brehm, who posted 22 points and 10 rebounds, but the Pirates could not overcome Fredericktown’s efficient offense and stifling defense.
