Public Library of Mount Vernon & Knox County announces Nutcracker-themed holiday events

Kids & Families

The December Book Discussion at The Public Library of Mount Vernon & Knox County will feature Hiddensee, the story of the famous Herr Drosselmeir from the Christmas classic Nutcracker.

The discussion is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 3 from 7 until 8 p.m. in the multipurpose room and is both free and open to public.

Author Gregory McGuire made a name for himself with his novel-turned stage play, Wicked, and carries that dark imagination into his latest book as well.

Copies of Hiddensee are available at the library or online on Libby and Hoopla.

The Main Movie Night will be held on Dec. 10 from 7 until 9 p.m. - also in the multipurpose room.

The featured movie is Nutcracker and the Four Realms - a 2018 re-imagining of the holiday ballet that takes movie-goers on an adventure in pure Disney style. It is rated PG, free, and open to the public; however, children must be accompanied by an adult.

On Tuesday, Dec. 17, the Retro Cinema will feature Nutcracker, the motion picture, from 7 until 9 p.m. in the multipurpose room.

This 1986 film brought the Tchaikovsky classic to the big screen, courtesy of the Pacific Northwest Ballet Company.

The movie is rated G, free, and open to the public; children must be accompanied by an adult.
