Highland dominates first round of softball tourney, loses to Licking Valley in Sectional Final

No. 11 Highland won the opening round of the Division II, Central 1 softball playoffs, but had trouble with No. 4 Licking Valley in the Sectional Finals, taking a 10-0 loss to finish their season 5-15.

On May 6, the Lady Scots dominated the No. 13 Whitehall Yearling Rams 22-2, led by a four RBI day by Kate Clements.

While the Rams had a 2-0 lead after one inning, the Lady Scots went off for nine and eight runs in the second and third innings. They put five runs on the board in the fourth inning, and cruised to the huge, lopsided win.

Clements hit a double and went 3-for-4, with three runs, four RBIs and a walk. Aubree Bellamy was 1-for-2 with four RBIs, three runs and three walks. Maddy Stuckman went 1-for-3 with three RBIs, a run and a walk. Bri Tuggle was 1-for-2 with a double, two runs, an RBI and a walk, and Aubree Johnson went 1-for-2 with a double, two RBIs, a run and a walk. Kaymi Lewis also had a solid day going 2-for-3 with four runs scored, two RBIs and a walk.

Lydia Shaffer allowed only one hit and two earned runs in the first inning. She struck out eight and walked six over five innings in the win.

On May 8, Licking Valley went off for 16 hits in a 10-0 rout in the District Finals.

Highland had five hits in the game, led by Johnson who was 2-for-2 with a double. Bellamy, Clements and Jossalyn Varney each had singles in the game.

Kelsey Munday started the game and got the loss for Highland. She went three innings, allowing four runs but two earned, six hits and a walk, while striking out a batter.
