Highland makes it 11 straight wins with top notch pitching by Church and Sears

Make it 11 straight wins for the Highland baseball team, as the Fighting Scots improved to 17-2 and 9-2 in in the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference with back-to-back wins over the Clear Fork Colts.

On April 30, Highland traveled to Clear Fork and took a 7-2 win thanks to a fantastic start on the hill by Zach Church.

Clear Fork had a 1-0 lead until the fifth inning when Church drove in three runs on a triple to left field. Hayden Kline followed with a sacrifice bunt to bring Church home. Jace Brooks walked and then Gavin Wiggand reached on a dropped third strike. During the next at bat, Brooks scored on a wild pitch to make it a 5-1 game.

Clear Fork added a run in the bottom half of the fifth inning to cut the lead to three, but in the top of the seventh inning Highland put two on the board. Gage Partin and Kline each scored on a wild pitches in the inning.

Church went seven innings, allowing two unearned runs, three hits and a walk, while striking out nine for the win. He also went 1-for-3 with a triple, a walk, three RBIs and a run. Jayden Collins was 1-for-3 with a double, and Kline went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

Highland hosted the Colts on May 1 and came away with a 10-1 win where Kort Sears threw a one-hitter.

Sears went all seven innings, allowing a hit, a walk, and an unearned run, while striking out eight batters.

Wiggand was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and to runs. Johnson went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run. Church was 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Kline was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
