Centerburg bats get hot in 3 game winning streak

Centerburg beat a pair of KMAC rivals last week to improve to 5-1 in the conference, and with a blowout win over Northridge to end the week, it put the Trojans at 7-5 overall.

Centerburg 15, Mount Gilead 2

Centerburg had lost back-to-back games coming into the KMAC showdown with the Indians, and while the Trojans only had singles in the ballgame, they smashed 17 hits in a 15-2 victory on April 16.

The Trojans started hot with a four run first inning with Ricky Faught hitting an RBI single, Jesse Rings knocking in two runs on a single, and then Rings scoring on a wild pitch. Centerburg added two runs in the second inning on an RBI single by Grayson Reynolds, who then scored in an error by the catcher when stealing third.

In the third inning, Rings stole third and then stole home to make it a 7-0 game. Centerburg’s Daniel Lemaster reached on an error that brought around a run to make it an eight run lead, and Reynolds hit an RBI single to follow. Aiden Trobridge also reached on a passed ball during the at bat. Mason Vallance drilled a single to center to bring around Reynolds, and the following at bat Rings hit an RBI single to go up 13-0.

Mount Gilead got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when two runs scored on an error, but in the top of the fifth Centerburg added a pair of insurance runs that came on back-to-back bases loaded walks to make it a 15-2 game for the final.

Rings was 4-for-4 with three RBIs, three runs and three steals to lead the Trojan offense. Reynolds was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, three runs and a walk. Daniel Lemaster went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, two runs, a walk and a steal.

Ryder Scott went all five innings for the win, allowing two unearned runs, five hits and two walks, while striking out four.

Gage Baker was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Mount Gilead.

Cole Fricke took the loss for the Indians, in what was a tough day allowing 12 runs with nine earned, 10 hits and a walk, while striking out three batters. 

Centerburg 3, Cardington-Lincoln 2

Centerburg made it two in a row with Lemaster out-dueling Wyatt Wade in a 3-2 win over the Pirates on April 18.

The Pirates got the scoring going first with a run scoring on an Abner Edgell ground out in the first inning. They made it a 2-0 game when Denton Garrison hit an RBI single.

In the bottom of the third inning, Centerburg made it a one run game when Rings singled in a run. They tied up the game in the bottom of the fourth on a Vallance RBI single, followed by a Jonah Gribben double that scored Trobridge.

Lemaster went a complete seven innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs, while striking out eight in the win. Wade also pitched a complete game, going six innings, allowing seven hits, three earned runs and three walks, while punching out 10 batters.

Gribben led Centerburg with a 2-for-3 day, hitting the game’s only extra-base hit with a double. He also had an RBI. Rings went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The Pirates were led by Garrison, who was 3-for-3 with an RBI.

Centerburg 14, Northridge 0

Centerburg finished out the week with a one-sided 14-0 victory over Northridge, where the Trojans tallied 10 hits and nine walks in the game.

Scott got the win on the hill, going four innings, allowing two hits and a walk, while striking out five.

Vinny Morgan was 1-for-3 with a walk and a pair of RBIs. Lemaster and Reynolds each went 2-for-3, with Lemaster scoring three runs and Reynolds coming around to score twice. Reynolds had an RBI, as well. Garrett Belcher and Scott each had doubles in the win.
