Meet our Summer Interns!
Without the help of summer interns, the workload of the Knox County Park District would be more than the staff can handle. During this peak season of maintaining properties from the various parks to the river access points, there are always tasks to be accomplished. Each year the Park District hires currently enrolled college students majoring in an environmental science/natural resource or education area of study. The internship allows for a hands-on experience for the students to become engaged in their field of study.
This year the Park District benefited greatly by hiring Ethan Brooks, a sophomore at Ohio University majoring in Wildlife and Conservation Biology. An Eagle Scout, Ethan enjoys forestry as well as service projects that benefit the community.
Elizabeth Diehl was another win for the Park District this summer. Elizabeth began her second year at Bowling Green University this fall and is majoring in Biology with Conservation and Ecology. Working in the herpetology lab at BGU, she was responsible for a variety of snakes, feeding the snakes, recording data and providing guided tours to students and parents who visited the lab. She enjoys passing on her own passion for nature by educating children and adults in the wonders of outside world.
Both Liz and Ethan were diligent, dependable and undaunted as they tackled their daily tasks with an awareness of the important role they were fulfilling, not only for the Park District, but for nature itself.
It was a privilege to work with these students and we wish them every success with their future studies and careers.
