Mount Vernon Nazarene University recognized Jeana Howald ('82) with the Distinguished Alumni Service Award during MVNU's Homecoming Chapel on Nov. 10.
The award is given by MVNU's Alumni Association to an alum who has shown the values of the university in their lives and careers, according to an MVNU press release.
Howald has served as MVNU women's softball coach since 1990, according to an MVNU press release. The team won its first national title in 1993. She guided the team to the National Christian College Athletic Association National Tournament 10 times and earned Coach of the Year honors several times during her 34 years as head coach.
"What makes Jeana special goes beyond her title and performances. She exudes the spirit of MVNU. She is a leader of women who lives the MVNU motto of service and life change," said Vice President for University Relations James Smith, according to an MVNU press release.
