The Danville football team won the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference with an undefeated record. | Coach Matt Blum

No. 2 Danville Blue Devils (10-0, 7-0) vs. No. 15 McDonald Blue Devils (5-5, 1-5)

Kickoff: Friday, 7 p.m. Municipal Stadium, 8E Washington Street, Danville, OH

Enrollments: Danville (166), McDonald (355)

Coaches: Danville- Matt Blum, McDonald- Dan Williams

Streaks: Danville- 10 wins, McDonald- 2 losses

At Stake: The Blue Devils finished the regular season undefeated but they’ve got bigger and better things in mind, and the road there starts Friday night.

What to Watch: Danville is coming off an uncharacteristic low scoring affair, where they beat East Knox in the Devil-Dog game that turned into what Coach Matt Blum called “The Mud Bowl.”

The gritty win was fueled by quarterback Walker Weckesser, who scored both of the team’s touchdowns and a two point conversion to win 14-12. He struggled throwing due to the weather with a pair of picks, but he led the team in rushing with 79 yards and two scores. He has 13 rushing touchdowns this season 596 yards on the ground while also throwing for 1,179 yards, 14 touchdowns and four interceptions at a 59.7% rate.

Cole Delaughder is the top running back with 1,121 yards and 18 touchdowns, while going at 7.2 yards per carry. He led the KMAC in each of these categories. Delaughder has also caught 12 passes for 196 yards and a score. Bryer Boeshart has 26 carries for 269 yards and five touchdowns, and also leads the team with 17 catches and 307 yards in the air. Boeshart has a pair of receiving scores, as well.

The defense is led by Josh Byers with 107 tackles and Caleb Lucas with 77 tackles. Lucas also leads the team in sacks with seven. Delaughder has four sacks and nine hurries to go with 32 tackles. Weckesser and Jacob Hackman each have four picks to lead the team.

McDonald had a 5-3 record two weeks ago but are now coming off a pair of lopsided conference losses. They are hoping they can turn things around against the Blue Devils, but against an undefeated squad averaging 46.7 points per game, it will be a tough one.

McDonald, also with the Blue Devils moniker, have been outscored 230-211 this year and were 1-5 in conference play. They trailed early last game and could never recover, so look for them to try to get out to a fast start on offense.

The team looks to quarterback Drew Zajack, who is a dual threat with running and passing capabilities. His best game of the season was a five touchdown performance over Waterloo last month, where they won 42-12.
