Minutemen beat Ashland 24-14 in final game of regular season

The Lexington Minutemen (5-5, 4-3) secured a playoff spot with a win 24-14 win over Ashland (5-5, 3-4) on Oct. 20.

The Minutemen were up 17-0 at halftime on a five-yard rushing touchdown by Mason Green in the second quarter, a fumble recovery in the end zone by Bryston Hess, and a field goal by Will Perkins from 24 yards out.

Lexington jumped out to as much as 24-0 on a Joe Caudill touchdown run before the Arrows mounted a comeback attempt in the fourth quarter. Nathan Bernhard threw two late touchdown passes to make it a 10-point game. Cayden Spotts caught a 5-yard touchdown and Landon Brigg hauled in a two point conversion on the first Ashland touchdown. Bernhard hit Michael Franz for a 15-yard touchdown for the second score.

Despite the late efforts by Ashland, the Minutemen were able to hold on for the win. 

The playoffs start this week and No. 14 Ashland travels to No. 3 Columbian on Friday at 7 p.m.

No. 13 Lexington travels to No. 4 Mansfield Senior at 7 p.m. on Friday night.
