What to Watch

The Yellow Jackets couldn’t get anything going last week against a Madison Comprehensive, as Mount Vernon was blown out 38-0. The major issue is that this was against a struggling Rams team who had not recorded a win to that point.

Jonny Askew hurt his ankle early in the game and was held to only four carries for five yards. He is the team’s biggest threat with playmaking potential when healthy, but has not been able to get it going in recent weeks. Look for Askew to be a major factor in the outcome.

Mav Gregory has come on as the lead back of late, and last week he had nine carries for 61 yards. Mason Richards had 29 yards rushing as well. However, the team needs to wrap up the football as they fumbled twice. Jake Taylor also needs to step up at the quarterback position to get the ball moving downfield.

Mansfield Senior has a five game winning streak and sit atop the Ohio Cardinal Conference. They have outscored opponents 207-161.

The Tygers beat Wooster in convincing fashion, 35-7, and look to build off of the blowout conference win and stay unbeaten in OCC play. Last week the Tygers had 225 yards on the ground with a running back by committee tactic. Look for Mansfield Senior to spread the ball out to their running backs (Jamir Petty and Zyion Brown) again this week. Duke Reese is also a playmaker on offense at the quarterback position and receiver Amarr Davis can get it done with his hands and his legs.
