A 49-year-old female was found dead by the Mount Vernon Police Department (MVPD) after officers responded to a reported disturbance at a single-family home in Mount Vernon on Thursday.

At approximately 1:43 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, Patrol officers responded to a disturbance call. They found the deceased victim in a residence at the 700 block of Upper Fredericktown Road, within the City of Mount Vernon. Officials said her name will not be released at this time in compliance with Ohio's Marsy's Law provisions.

Authorities emphasized that the investigation remains active, noting that the event is an isolated incident and that the public is not at risk. MVPD detectives and investigators from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) are working together on the case.

Officers detained Jason D. Payne, who is the home's only other occupant.

"The subject, Jason D. Payne, is being held on a probation violation out of Cuyahoga County at this time," officials said in a press release. "Additional criminal charges may be forthcoming and further details of the incident will be released as appropriate."
