The Mansfield Senior Tygers (4-2, 3-0) jumped out to a 21-7 lead and never looked back in a 37-10 rout over Lexington (3-3, 2-1) for their third straight win, led by Duke Reese’s four touchdowns.
The Tygers scored the first three touchdowns of the day, starting with a 30-yard run by Reese with 10:48 left in the first quarter. With 9:16 left, Reese scored again on a 13-yard scamper. Jamir Petter scored with 3:46 on the clock in the quarter, and after three Quinten DeBolt extra points it was a 21-0 game. The Minutemen got on the board with 3:31 left in the quarter on a 65-yard pass from Joe Caudill to Brayden Fogle, with a Will Perkins extra point to make it 21-7.
In the second quarter Perkins nailed a field goal to make it 21-10 with 5:47 left, but less than two minutes later Nate Dismuke hauled in a 25-yard pass from Reese to go up 28-10 at halftime. In the third quarter Caudill was tackled for a safety to put the Tygers up 30-10 and then Ja’ontay O’Bryant closed out the scoring with 11:03 left in the fourth quarter with a 14 yard touchdown grab from Reese.
Reese was 9-for-27 for 95 yards and two passing touchdowns. He had 10 carries for 83 yards and two touchdowns. Petty ran nine times for 48 yards and a touchdown. Dismuke caught two passes for 39 yards and a touchdown. DeBolt was 5-for-5 in extra points on the day, remaining perfect on the season. Amarr Davis, who has been the top receiver for the Tyger who holds the school records for catches and receiving yards, was quiet with two catches for 10 yards. He needs one touchdown to tie the school record of 20.
On defense, Mansfield Senior was led by Maurice Bradley II, who had 14 tackles and a sack. Symirr Phillips had another strong day driving the quarterback nuts, with 2.5 sacks and seven tackles, including 3.5 for a loss. Daylan McGinty had four tackles and a sack. Dismuke tallied 10 tackles and picked off a pass, while O’Bryant also had an interception to go with five tackles.
For the season, Reese is 48-for-108 with 692 yards, 10 touchdowns and three interceptions. Davis has 27 catches for 519 yards and five touchdowns. He has also returned two of his seven kickoff returns for a touchdown, and is averaging 29.6 yards per return with a total of 207 yards. Dismuke has come on strong with 10 catches for 163 yards and four touchdowns. Phillips has 7.5 sacks and 35 total tackles, while Bradley II has seven sacks and 67 total tackles. Bradley has also picked off two passes. O’Bryant leads the team with three interceptions and has also deflected six passes.
Lexington was led by Caudill, with the quarterback going 15-for-29 for 260 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He also had 18 carries for 36 yards. Fogle caught eight passes for 199 yards and a touchdown. Perkins was 1-for-1 for field goals and extra points. On defense, Keegan West and Mason Green each had seven tackles. David Biggers had four tackles, with 1.5 for a loss.
Mansfield Senior tallied 260 total yards, and despite losing, Lexington led with 297 yards on the day. Lexington also controlled time of possession at 26:30 compared to 21:30 for the Tygers.
Over the past five years, when Mansfield Senior runs for more than 100 yards in a game they had a 30-4 record, compared to 8-11 when not meeting the mark.
Mansfield looks to make it four in a row on Friday night with a home matchup against conference foe Ashland. Lexington travels to West Holmes on Friday for a 7 p.m. conference matchup.
