Robert Donald McKenzie, 90, died on Saturday, August 26 in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
Bob was born in Frostburg, Maryland and moved to Mount Vernon, Ohio to attend Mount Vernon Academy, and remained a resident of Mount Vernon until his death.
After graduating from Mount Vernon Academy, Bob served in the army during the Korean war earning the National Defense service medal.
After his army service, Bob began a career as a block layer, later became a successful building contractor. Bob developed several neighborhoods in the Mount Vernon area, including Southridge Drive, Indian Hills Road and Brook Run Court, building over 40 homes.
A longtime, active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Hill Church in Mt. Vernon, Bob supported many church initiatives during his life and cherished his friendships with fellow church members.
Bob was preceded in death by his second wife Jean; his first wife Ruth; his son Steven McKenzie; his three siblings, Erna Butler, Alvin McKenzie and LoisAnn Wood and his parents, Robert and Anna McKenzie.
Surviving Bob is his daughter Jennifer (Larry) Cabral; step-son David (Debi) Duke; step-daughter Judi Duke; grandchildren Steven (Kelly) Cabral, Christina Cabral, Lauren (Josh) Garrido; and great-grandchildren Josefina Cabral and Ethan Garrido.
A funeral will be held on Sunday, September 3rd , 3pm, at Roberts Funeral Home, 18260 Coshocton Avenue, Mount Vernon, Ohio. Private burial will be in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
