The 2023 graduating class of Fredericktown High School student-athletes have seen a parade of college signings and commitments covering many sports programs.
Now the Freddies’ golf program is also represented, as Ian Muka signed to further his academic and golf careers at Mount Vernon Nazarene University in a ceremony held at the school on May 4 in front of a group of Muka’s family and friends, as well as the school's athletic director and coaches.
Muka, who was the golf team’s MVP, was selected to First Team All-KMAC and had an 18-hole scoring average of 78 this season.
The newest member of the Cougars’ golf squad said he will major in business management and minor in sports management, and that he chose MVNU for its proximity to family and its programs. “I chose MVNU because I think it was the best option for me and my family,” Muka said. “I wanted to be able to stay close to family and friends without having to worry about getting homesick. I also really like the golf program and the campus, as well as the academics side of it all.”
Muka said his goals for his freshman season are to make the traveling team and be a good supporting teammate. “I can’t wait to make a positive impact on and off the course,” he said.
Fredericktown AD Adam Brown said Muka has worked hard on his golf game and improved every year. “Ian’s senior season is a perfect example of what can happen when you are dedicated to your sport. His leadership will definitely be missed at Fredericktown.”
