East Knox 3, Lucas 0
Landon Spearman was nearly perfect on April 27 against the Lucas Cubs (9-3, 5-1), with the Bulldog ace tossing a complete game one-hitter to lead East Knox (11-4, 7-3) to a 3-0 win.
East Knox got on the board in the first inning on an RBI single by Cole Delaughder. The Bulldogs put up a run in the second and added an insurance run in the fourth inning.
Spearman pitched all seven innings in the win, allowing a hit and no walks, while striking out five batters. He was also 1-for-2 at the plate.
East Knox tallied nine hits on the day. Bryar Householder went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to lead the offense for East Knox. Dustin Springer also smashed a double in a 1-for-3 day. Delaughder was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Mount Vernon 17, Lincoln 6
Mount Vernon (13-4, 7-3) exploded for 17 runs highlighted by a five RBI day for Kayden Packard, knocking off Gahanna Lincoln (7-9, 5-3) 17-6 on April 27.
Both teams scored a run in the second inning, but the Yellow Jackets stung for seven runs in the third, three runs in the fourth, four runs in the fifth and a pair of runs in the sixth. Lincoln scored three runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth inning. The Yellow Jackets took the win with the mercy rule called on an 11-run margin after six innings.
In the decisive third inning, with one out, Cash Finnell singled, Cedric Berger singled and after a fielder's choice and a balk, Trevor Buttke knocked a two-out single to center to make it 3-1, Jackets. A single by Logan Trace, a walk to Mack Hanna and a single by Kayden Packard made it 5-1. After a walk to Caden Rowland loaded the bases, Konner Daughriety cleared the bags with a three-run triple. That MV outburst essentially put the game out of reach.
Packard was 2-for-3 with a run and five RBIs to lead Mount Vernon at the dish. Jonny Askew went yard for his only hit of the day, knocking in two runs and scoring twice. Burger was 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Logan Trace smashed a double and went 3-for-4. Daughriety was 2-for-5 with three RBIs in the win. The Yellow Jackets tallied 16 hits on the day and had eight steals.
Jagger Dohn was the winning pitcher, throwing four innings and allowing six runs, but only two earned. He allowed seven hits, three walks and struck out four batters. Daughriety pitched two innings of scoreless, one-hit ball in relief while striking out five.
Northmor 10, Colonel Crawford 8
Grant Bentley played the hero's role on April 27 for Northmor (14-4, 7-3) with a two-run triple in the seventh inning to help the Golden Knights come back and take a 10-8 win over Colonel Crawford (11-7, 7-3).
Both teams put a run on the board in the first inning, but the Eagles flew for five runs in the fifth to take a 6-1 lead. Each team scored a run in the third, but Northmor scored twice in the second and tied the game in the sixth with three runs, highlighted by an RBI double by Cooper Thomas. Colonel Crawford scored a run in the seventh, but Northmor put three on the board in the final frame to secure the win.
Picking up the win was Bryce Cooper, who allowed one run on one hit and three walks, while striking out five over five innings. Bentley picked up the save allowing one hit and striking out a batter in one inning of relief.
Bentley was 1-for-4 with the two-run triple, while scoring four runs and walking once. Drew Hammond went 2-for-5 with a double, a run and an RBI. Garrett Harvey was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Thomas went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Northmor had a total of nine hits in the win.
Loudonville 13, Danville 6
It was a tough day for Danville (6-9, 3-6) baseball with the Blue Devils having trouble keeping the Loudonville bats in check, falling 13-6 thanks to the Redbirds (7-8, 3-1) scoring eight runs over the final two frames.
Loudonville scored three runs in the second and a run in the third, but Danville tied the ballgame with a four-run third inning thanks to some fielding miscues by the Redbirds that the Blue Devils were able to capitalize on. Loudonville then took a 5-4 lead with a run in the fifth, and while Danville scored runs in the fifth and seventh, Loudonville put up five and three runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Dustin Beckett was 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI, three runs and a pair of walks. Kendall Carter was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Also driving in runs were Joe Mickley and Lane Cline.
Grayson Brokaw took the loss in relief allowing six runs, with three earned, eight hits while walking a batter and striking out one.
Mount Gilead 9, Granville Christian Academy 2
Nick Garvey was productive for the Mount Gilead Indians (8-11, 3-6), knocking in three runs to lead the team to a 9-2 win over Granville Christian Academy (3-5, 2-4) on April 29.
The Indians scored one run in the first and then piled on five in the second to take a 6-0 lead. Granville put a run on the board in the third, but Mount Gilead scored twice in the fourth and again in the sixth. Granville scored their second run in the seventh inning, but it wasn’t enough to mount a comeback as Mount Gilead had a commanding lead.
Mount Gilead had 10 hits in the game while allowing only five. The Indians were led by Garvey’s three-RBI day, where he went 2-for-5. Gage Baker was 3-for-4 with four runs scored and a pair of RBIs in the win. He also swiped four bags.
Joey Baldwin went all seven innings to take the win, allowing two runs with both unearned, five hits, two walks while striking out seven.
Olentangy Orange 8, Utica 2
The bats just never got going for Utica (6-10, 4-7) against Olentangy Orange (11-6, 5-4) on April 29, with the Redskins taking an 8-2 loss in a game they trailed the entire way after the first inning.
Both teams scored a run in the first inning, but the Pioneers scored twice in the second, one run in the fourth and two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. Utica scored one run in the sixth inning.
Utica only managed four total hits on the day. The offense was Gavin Chinn, who had an RBI and a 1-for-2 day. Aidyn Burgess had the other RBI, and went 1-for-3. Matt Hite and Roman Gamble had the other two hits in the game for the Redskins.
Braxton Fisher took the loss going 3.1 innings, allowing three earned runs, five total runs and six hits.
