Locally, the 2022-2023 girls basketball season is over, and 34 players earned season honors from their respective leagues.
All-League KMAC Basketball 2022-23
The Knox Morrow Athletic Conference (KMAC) consisting of Cardington-Lincoln, Centerburg, Danville, East Knox, Fredericktown, Mount Gilead and Northmor high schools and middle schools has selected its All-League student-athletes. In addition, the KMAC recognizes one senior from every school for every sport as an All-Academic winner. The All-Academic winner must have a GPA of at least 3.5.
In girls basketball, during the season, Mount Gilead edged Cardington-Lincoln by one game, with a 9-3 conference mark to take the KMAC title. Mount Gilead’s Madilyn Elson was named Girls Basketball Player of the Year and her coach, Nick Vukovich, was selected Girls Basketball Coach of the Year.
First Team selections
First team honorees were eight players selected from seven different schools, with Danville receiving two selections. Included are leading scorer Cally Carpenter (Fredericktown), leading assist player Kylee Hess (Danville) and top rebounder Sydney Opfer (East Knox). Top in blocks, Jill Bouton (Fredericktown) was overlooked by the committee.
First Teamers were: Abigail Hardwick (Cardington-Lincoln), Kayla Larimore (Centerburg), Sydney Opfer (East Knox), Ella Proper (Danville), Jaylyn Workman (Danville), Cally Carpenter (Fredericktown), Madilyn Elson (Mount Gilead) and Riley Johnson (Northmor).
Second Team selections
The six KMAC Second Team honorees came from six different teams: Lydia Hess (Cardington-Lincoln), Kylee Hess (Danville), Ella Divan (East Knox), Grace Sipes (Fredericktown), Faith White (Mount Gilead) and Emily Zeger (Northmor).
Honorable Mention
Seven players earned Honorable Mention: Madison Caulkins (Cardington-Lincoln), Clara Johnson (Centerburg), Broegan Staats (Danville), Natalie Smith (East Knox), Ella Bouton (Fredericktown), Candace Millisor (Mount Gilead) and Lauren Johnson (Northmor).
Girls Basketball All-Academic Winners
All-Academic honors were earned by six players: Louisa Halabrin (Cardington-Lincoln), Jaylyn Workman (Danville), Raelyn Todd (East Knox), Grace Sipes (Fredericktown), Grace Shipman (Mount Gilead) and Emilee Jordan (Northmor).
Ohio Cardinal Conference
In the Ohio Cardinal Conference, Mount Vernon finished fifth with a 2-8 record and Kymber Bell was named to Second Team status, while Nevaeh Williams and Hayley Burke earned Honorable Mention.
Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference
In MOAC play, Highland finished seventh at 2-11 and Kameron Stover earned Honorable Mention.
Licking County League
In Licking County League Cardinal Division play, Utica was 3-7 for fifth place and Abby Dickson was named to the First Team, Delaney Kerstetter made Second Team and Isabella Coulter earned Honorable Mention.
