Centerburg 49, Fredericktown 14
Centerburg (9-1) hosted Fredericktown (6-4, 4-2) last week in a KMAC matchup, and Tyler Johnson had another big day running and throwing for the Trojans,with a toal of five touchdowns to lead the way in a 49-14 win.
It was a 7-7 tie after one quarter with Fredericktown getting on the board first on a 20-yard touchdown run by Teegan Ruhl and a made point after by Luke Veyon with 8:08 on the clock. Centerburg responded with 1:18 remaining on a 5-yard touchdown run by Johnson, with Dominic Vargo hitting the extra point to tie the game.
Centerburg went up 14-7 with 6:53 left in the second quarter on a 6-yard touchdown run. With 1:30 on the clock, Centerburg made it a 21-7 game going into halftime thanks to a 16-yard touchdown run by Johnson.
With 8:25 left in the third quarter, Johnson hit Tristin Hankinson for a 34-yard touchdown pass making it 28-7, and then Johnson struck again in the air with 4:01 left for a 4-yard touchdown pass. With 2:28 left in the third quarter, Caylan LeMaster scampered 65 yards for a touchdown, making it 42-7. In the fourth quarter, Fredericktown got on the board again with 6:06 left on Ben Mast's touchdown pass to Ruhl for 4 yards. Centerburg got an insurance score with 2:49 left on a 36-yard touchdown run by Isaiah Sule, making it 49-14.
Centerburg put up 432 yards of total offense, including 361 yards on the ground. Johnson was 8-for-12 passing for 71 yards and a pair of touchdowns. On the ground, he ran the ball 23 times for 194 yards and three touchdowns.
LeMaster had 10 carries for 130 yards and a touchdown. Jesse Rings had three catches for 13 yards, Trevin Harris had two catches for 13 yards and a touchdown and Hankinson had a 34-yard catch for a touchdown. Defensively, Centerburg was led by Gauge Stepp with eight tackles.
The Freddies were led by Ruhl, who ran 24 times for 137 yards and a touchdown. Mason Hoeflich had four carries for 41 yards. Mast was 6-for-15 for 57 yards passing, including a touchdown. Ruhl was his favorite target with three catches for 38 yards and a touchdown. Trevor Bellman led the defense with eight tackles.
Centerburg finished the regular season first in KMAC and are heading to the Region 19 playoffs this week. On Saturday, the Trojans (seeded fourth) host the Columbus Academy Vikings (seeded 13th) for a 7 p.m. matchup.
Fredericktown (seeded 14th) takes on Eastwood (seeded third) in the Region 18 playoff first round on Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.
Clear Fork 42, Highland 7
Highland (7-3, 6-1) went head-to-head with Clear Fork (9-1, 7-0) in what was a marquis matchup between two of the best teams in the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference, and the Colts were able to shut down one of Ohio’s top high school running backs, Dane Nauman, and walk away with a 42-7 road win.
Clear Fork went up 21-0 at the half and continued its dominance in the third quarter with a pair of touchdowns. Highland got on the board with a touchdown in the fourth quarter, but the damage had already been done, and Clear Fork cruised to an easy victory.
Clear Fork dominated offensively with 336 yards and was able to hold Highland to only 131 yards. The main aspect of the game was that the Colts centered their efforts on stopping Nauman, who had run for at least 300 yards in three of the previous four games. Through double-teaming efforts, Nauman was held to only 19 carries for 79 yards and no touchdowns.
The lone touchdown for Highland came on a touchdown pass from Zach Church to Gavin Toombs. Church was 2-for-5 for 52 yards and a touchdown. Toombs caught two passes for 38 yards.
Nauman led the defense with eight total tackles while forcing and recovering a fumble.
Highland (7 seed) hosts Tinora (10 seed) on Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. in the first round of the Region 18 playoffs.
Loudonville 28, Northmor 21
Northmor (5-5, 2-5) faced Loudonville (6-4, 3-1) in a home conference matchup, and the Red Birds were able to edge out a 28-21 win over the Golden Knights.
Loudonville had a 7-0 lead after one quarter, but the Golden Knights tied the game in the second quarter on a 22-yard touchdown pass by AJ Bower to Hunter Fulk for 22 yards and a completed extra point by Caleb Schnuerer with 5:19 on the clock. Loudonville responded seconds later on a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Camdyn Beachy. With 3:54 left in the half, Loudonville scored again on a 25-yard touchdown run by Matthew Sprang.
With 1:44 on the clock in the half, Northmor completed a 31-yard touchdown pass to Fulk to make it a 21-14 game. Loudonville went up 28-14 with 5:55 remaining in the game on a 3-yard touchdown run by Peyton Regan. Northmor cut the lead down to a touchdown with a two-yard Max Lower touchdown run with 1:51 left in the game, but the Red Birds were able to hold on to take the win.
While Northmor took to the air the majority of the game with 223 yards passing, the Red Birds were able to control the pace with 259 yards on the ground.
The Golden Knights were led by Bower, who was 15-for-26 for 206 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He finished the regular season with a 53% completion rate with 1,902 yards, 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
Fulk was his top receiver with five catches for 78 yards and two touchdowns. Bo Bo Landin had two catches for 67 yards, and Lower snagged five catches for 45 yards. Lower had 20 carries for 100 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
The defense was led by Fulk, who picked off two passes. Ashton Clark had four tackles, two fumble recoveries and also blocked a kick. Lower posted six tackles and a sack and Cameron Goldbach also recorded a sack and had five tackles.
Northmor (14 seed) travels to Bellaire (3 seed) for the first round of the Region 23 playoffs on Oct. 29 for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
Mount Gilead 44, Cardington-Lincoln 13
Mount Gilead (6-4, 4-3) and Cardington-Lincoln (1-9, 0-7) squared off at Mount Gilead, and the Indians were able to finish their regular season on a high note with a 44-13 conference win.
The Trojans went up 7-6 after one quarter, but Mount Gilead scored 24 points in the second quarter to make it a 30-7 game at halftime. In the third quarter, Mount Gilead went up 38-13 and finished off the game with a six-point fourth quarter.
Cardington-Lincoln was led by Kaiden Beach, who ran the ball 18 times for 141 yards and a touchdown. Beach also went 8-for-17 for 80 yards and a touchdown. The top receiver on the day was Kaylin Briggs with three receptions for 37 yards and a touchdown. Ashton Plowman had a pair of catches for 27 yards, while also carrying the ball five times for 17 yards rushing. Defensively, Colin McAvoy led the team with 10 tackles, with one for a loss.
Mount Gilead ended the season with a pair of 1,000-yard rushers, displaying a solid ground attack. Matthew Bland had 191 carries for 1,309 yards and 15 touchdowns. Garrett George had 185 carries for 1,185 yard and 12 touchdowns.
Bland was 56-for-113 passing with 1,027 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. Owen High was his top receiver with 21 catches for 554 yards and five touchdowns. Logan High had 14 catches for 226 yards and a touchdown on the season.
On Oct. 28, Mount Gilead (11 seed) takes on Worthington Christian (6 seed) in the region 23 playoff first round beginning at 7 p.m. on the road.
