At Seneca East's Stars, Stripes and Lights night run on Sept. 10, senior Joel Roberts helped lead the Highland Flying Scots to a first-place finish in the DII division, and while Nathan Streby of East Knox continued his hot early-season pace and came in first in DIII, it was Mount Gilead that took DIII team honors with three top-five placements.
In Division II, Highland won with 80 points, two better than Indian Hill. Locally, Utica placed sixth with 138 points. Utica’s Stephen Epps placed second to Upper Sandusky’s Vent Ashton in 1:47.07, only 1.2 second behind the winner. Highland’s top three runners, Roberts, Hunter Bolton and Cael Gilmore, placed 10th, 12th and 13th respectively, and fellow Scot Grath Garee was 15th.
For the girls, Highland placed fourth and Utica fifth among 16 teams. Top local runners included Highland’s Lauren Garber (7th), Utica’s Camryn Baker (12th) and Highland’s Kindylle Mallow (19th).
In Division III, Mount Gilead won with 44 points, topping second-place West Liberty-Salem by 38. Fredericktown was fourth with 151, Cardington-Lincoln was 14th with 390, and East Knox placed 16th among 23 competing schools with 411.
Streby won the event in a time of 15:59.62. Mount Gilead's Will Baker was second in 16:14.59, Parker Bartlett was third in 16:18.84 and Reed Supplee placed fourth in 16:29.75. Fredericktown’s Owen Krabill placed 12th and two more Mount Gilead runners made the top 20 – Aaron Gannon was 17th and Owen Hershner was 18th.
In girls DIII racing, Fredericktown finished third, Mount Gilead fourth and East Knox 10th among 21 teams. Fredericktown’s Elsa Hoam was fourth among 216 runners, and among local runners, Loey Hallabrin of Cardington-Lincoln was 6th, East Knox’s Tayklor Severt was 11th and teammate Adrian Clutter was 12th.
