GAMBIER – As part of Kenyon College's Homecoming weekend, a class of five will be inducted into the Kenyon Athletic Hall of Fame.
The class, Michael Greenberg (2010), Claire Howard Low (1968), Warren Martin (1978), Tony Mohammed (1997) and Katy Zeanah (2006), will be the 29th group of inductees to enter the hall since 1988.
The induction ceremony will be held in the Lowry Center on the evening of Friday, Sept. 23. The following day, the new Hall of Fame class will be introduced at halftime of the Owls' football game with Ohio Wesleyan University, which is slated for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
In addition to the inductions, the Donald May Award will be presented to Rose Brintlinger Fealy (1984) and the Burchell Rowe Award will be given to Duane Gomez. The Donald May Award honors former Kenyon athletes who have had outstanding accomplishments in sports and who have performed creditably and honorably in a career, while the Burchell Rowe Award goes to those who embody the spirit of Kenyon College and have made significant contributions to Kenyon athletics.
MICHAEL GREENBERG
Class of 2010 – men's tennis
Michael Greenberg made an immediate impact as a member of the Kenyon men's tennis program. In the 2008 season, he whipped up a 33-2 overall record, the best single-season mark in team history. His run included a 22-match win streak, one that concluded with him winning the NCAA Division III Singles Championship in a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Filip Marickovich of Middlebury College.
Greenberg wound up with an 81-15 career singles record and a career win percentage of .844, which were both program records at that time.
Greenberg was a two-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-America singles honoree and ITA All-America doubles honoree and twice won the ITA's Scholar-Athlete Award. He led the Kenyon men to four straight conference championship crowns and was a three-time North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
CLAIRE HOWARD LOW
Class of 1986 – women's tennis
Claire Howard Low was the first Kenyon woman to qualify for the NCAA Division III Singles Championship. During that 1986 season, her senior year, Howard compiled a 14-2 record playing at the No. 1 singles spot. She also played at the No. 1 spot in doubles action and posted an 11-4 record.
She won the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Singles Tournament and led the team to its first-ever conference title. She garnered All-NCAC first-team honors and was the first Kenyon student-athlete to be named NCAC Player of the Year in tennis.
Prior to winning the NCAC crown and producing a perfect record of 10-0, Howard and the Kenyon team won the Great Lakes Colleges Association (GLCA) Tournament for the first time in program history. During that tournament, Howard placed third in both the singles and doubles brackets.
WARREN MARTIN
Class of 1978 – football
A force on the defensive line, Warren Martin developed into a highly recognized football player, both at the conference and national levels.
He began his Kenyon career as a nose guard but soon switched to defensive tackle. In his sophomore season, he piled up 54 tackles and 21 assists. Then, as a junior in 1976, he made 100 tackles with 30 assists. Kenyon went 6-3 that season, and the defense allowed an average of just 7.2 points per game.
Injuries put a damper on Martin's senior season, but he still managed 41 tackles and 18 assists in seven games, bringing his career numbers to 246 solo tackles, 124 assists and a Kenyon-record 34 sacks.
Martin was a three-time All-American and a two-time first-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference honoree. He was a four-year letter-winner, a team captain and Kenyon's 1978 Senior Athlete of the Year.
TONY MOHAMMED
Class of 1997 – men's soccer
With Tony Mohammed as front-row leader in the mid-1990s, the Kenyon soccer program posted a combined 64-9-7 record over four seasons. That time frame also covered two North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) championships and four NCAA Division III Tournament appearances, including a run to the 1993 NCAA semifinal game and the 1996 NCAA championship game.
Mohammed improved with time. As a junior, he tallied 10 goals and six assists in 16 games. As a senior, he led the team with 39 points on 16 goals and seven assists. He was a three-time All-NCAC honoree, including first-team recognition his senior season. He was also a two-time all-region award-winner and a four-year letter-winner.
He finished his Kenyon career ranked third in career points scored (112), third in career goals (42) and third in career assists (28).
KATY ZEANAH
Class of 2006 – women's basketball
A three-time All-North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) first-team honoree, Katy Zeanah was a do-it-all teammate who sparked the Kenyon basketball program to a combined 63-42 record over four seasons. She helped guide Kenyon teams to a 2005 NCAC regular-season championship, as well as two NCAC Tournament final appearances.
Zeanah racked up 1,179 career points, a total that, at the time of her graduation, ranked fifth best in program history. In addition to scoring, Zeanah stuffed her career stat sheet with 703 rebounds, 84 blocked shots and a .511 shooting percentage. Those three totals still rank third all-time in program history. She also holds top-10 Kenyon career marks for field goals (480), free throws (204) and steals (181).
In 2013, Zeanah was one of just 10 players to be named to the NCAC's 30th anniversary All-Decade Team.
