On June 14, 2022, The Living Center Senior Apartment Community hosted a Flag Day celebration. The Living Center residents were honored to host General Stephen L. Rhoades of the Ohio National Guard as the guest speaker, as well as members of the Knox County Veterans Council who retired The Living Center’s American Flag.

Rhoades began the celebration by presenting the Ohio Commendation Medal to Knox Public Health’s Emergency Preparedness Coordinator Amy Seward. Seward served in the Ohio National Guard for over 7 years before joining Knox Public Health.

Rhoades began his talk with an explanation of his “new Army uniform, which was reborn from the World War II era. The Army Greens, also known as the Pink and Greens, represent our tradition and history. It serves as a connection with past generations of soldiers to those working to secure America’s freedom today.” The general went on to ask all members of the audience that if they know of a young man and woman who feel a calling to serve their country, to encourage them to pursue this endeavor to serve.

Following the flag ceremony, Program Director Amber Hibner led everyone in a patriotic sing-along, and banana splits were served. A wonderful afternoon was had by all, honoring the United States Flag and all who serve this country.
