The Knox Babe Ruth League scheduled two games on May 21 at Mount Vernon Babe Ruth field at Memorial Park on Mount Vernon Avenue, that resulted in an 8-5 win for the Elks over the Moose and a 17-9 Rotary win over Kiwanis.

Elks 8, Moose 5

The Moose team started off the game with hot bats, but not at the level of the Elks. The Moose scored three runs, highlighted by a lead-off double by Mason Mitchell, who came around and scored on an RBI triple by Vincent Kizer one batter later. CJ Fisher and Grayson Brokaw followed with back-to-back singles and Brokaw later scored.

The Elks came out on fire with an eight-run first inning highlighted by an RBI double by Skylar Lawrence, who batted twice in the inning – he was also hit by a pitch and scored twice in thee innings.  

In the second inning, both teams’ pitching took control by setting down the sides in order, keeping the game at 8-3.

In the top of the third, the Moose scored a pair of runs, but the game was called in the third inning with the score sitting at 8-5.

Leading the offensive charge for the Elks was Lawrence, who had a double and two runs scored, while also being hit by a pitch. Zac Clow also doubled and had a run scored. He was also hit by a pitch. Brock Bailey and Ethan Garret each had singles and a run.

For the Moose, Mitchell hit a double and scored a run. Kizer knocked a triple and scored. Fisher had a pair of singles and a run. Brokaw singled and scored twice.

Rotary beats Kiwanis, 17-9

The Rotary Babe Ruth squad took on Kiwanis and Rotary took advantage with high-scoring outputs in the second and third innings to take the 17-9 victory.

The game started with Rotary going up 1-0 with Gauge Stull scoring the game’s first run. In the bottom of the first, Kiwanis catcher Ayden Lehman hit a two-out single to left. He advanced to second on a walk by Landon Byrnes and eventually came around to score making it a 1-1 game.

Rotary responded with an eight-run second inning to go up 9-1. Runs were scored by Braxton Lattman, Landyn Bakley, Wyatt Clenderren, Stull, Preston Hempfield, Arie Lust, Coen Armstrong and Will Armstrong. In the bottom half of the inning, Kiwanis put up four runs to make it a 9-5 game. The offense was highlighted by a base knock by Gavin McFadden. Scoring runs for Kiwanis were Wayde Denoit, McFadden, Wyatt Denoit and Colton Smith.

Rotary scored six more runs in the third to take a 15-5 lead with runs coming from Maddox Rice, Clenderren, Stull, Hempfield, Lust and Coen Armstrong. Kiwanis scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, highlighted by Smith hitting a single and later scoring a run. Wayde Denoit also scored to make It a 15-7 game.

Rotary made it a 19-7 game in the fourth with runs by Stull, Hempfield, Lust and Coen Armstrong. Kiwanis made an run in the fourth, but could only manage a pair of runs by Byrnes and Cameron Hill and Rotary secured the win.

Rotary was led by Stull, who reached base four times, including a pair of singles. Will Armstrong had three singles in the game.

For Kiwanis, Lehman had a single and also reached base when he was hit by a pitch. Smith and McFadden also had singles.
