The Mount Vernon Babe Ruth League opened play last weekend and prior to the first game, players and coaches were introduced. | Myranda Shields

On May 21st the new Mount Vernon Babe Ruthl League held its opening ceremonies at the Mount Vernon Babe Ruth field, at Memorial Park on Mount Vernon Avenue. Following the ceremony, the first season games were played.

Ceremonies began with an introduction of the League board: Colten Landis, Hunter Shields, Bo Boucher, Tabitha Braxton and Brett Hinger. Landis, the league president, introduced Brian Snow, son of Hank Snow, and Brian Snow spoke about his father and what the Babe Ruth League meant to Hank. The national anthem followed, and Brian Snow threw the first pitch to the catcher, Gauge Sull of Rotary. Shields thanked and read off the names of the sponsors, and Braxton introduced the coaches and players.

Rotary played Kiwanis in the first game of the season.
