Mount Vernon Elks Lodge No. 140 awarded a $4,000 grant to the Mount Vernon Fire Department on June 25.

According to a news release, the grant from the Elks Lodge will be used to acquire critical life-saving equipment. The release states that the equipment will include a FAST Rescue Board, essential for rapid firefighter rescue operations, a Wingman Rescue Device, which improves safety during high-risk scenarios, and SCBA Facepiece Labels that enhance firefighters' accountability and communication.

"Support like this strengthens our department and helps keep our community, and our first responders, safer," the city said in its release. "Thank you, Elks Lodge No. 140, for your continued commitment to serving Mount Vernon."

According to the Elks Lodge website, Mount Vernon, Ohio Lodge No. 140 was instituted in 1890 and currently has 493 members. The lodge meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month, except in July, August, and December when it meets only on the first Tuesday at 32 Public Square, Mt Vernon.
