UTICA – James Robert Armstrong passed away peacefully on April 5, 2022, at the age of 78. He was born on Dec. 24, 1943, to Stanley and Louise Belle (Friel) Armstrong in Newark. Jim graduated from Utica High School in 1961 and graduated with a BS in Pharmacy from The Ohio State University in 1966. He married Joyce Lynne (Boyling) Armstrong in 1966 and they recently celebrated 55 years of marriage.

He is survived by his wife and two sons, Robert Edward and Carla Baughman Armstrong of Canal Winchester, Ohio and Steven Lynn and Keeli Dyer Armstrong of Powell, Ohio; four grandchildren, Lauren Skylar Armstrong, Cameron Xavier Armstrong, Blake (Nikki) Conley and Rhianna Prather; four great-grandchildren, Theo and Walter Conley, Caiden and JJ. He is also survived by nephews Barrak (Kindra) Green, Matthew (Leah) Armstrong; nieces Danielle (Dave) Sartin, Diane (Dan) Chester; as well as eight great- nieces and nephews and several cousins.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Thomas Stanley Armstrong.

Jim worked for Lonsinger Pharmacy from 1966 to 2007 as manager and pharmacist. He was the Charter President of the Utica Area of Jaycees, served two years on the Village of Utica Council, Member of the Masonic Lodge of Licking County, member of the Valley of Columbus Scottish Rite, and a Shriner of the Aladdin Temple of Columbus, played in the Utica Thursday night business mens golfing league, for many years played in the Utica Monday night Bowling league and was very active in the Utica community. He and Joyce loved traveling throughout the world. Jim was a very kind and caring person to his community and had many friends. He loved his family and many, many dogs.

A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, at Law-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Utica, with Darin Pratt officiating. Inurnment will follow at South Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A celebration of life reception will immediately follow at the Ye Olde Mill, 11324 Mount Vernon Road, Utica.
