Freddies no-hit Danville in 19-1 romp

Following A 13-13 tie against Wynford on March 31, in which they came back from a 6-0 deficit and scored four in the seventh to secure the tie, the Fredericktown Freddies used two pitchers – Xavier Mullins and Jaxen Doup – to no-hit the Danville Blue Devils in a 19-1 drubbing on April 2.

The Freddies connected for 10 hits, with Brady Lester starting the onslaught with a leadoff home run in the first and another in the fourth. The Freddies were led by Lester, Teegan Ruhl, Luke Bean and Kaid Carpenter with two hits apiece. Ruhl and Bean each drove in three runs for the Freddies. Mullins struck out six in his three innings of work on the mound, and Doup fanned four in two innings.

Fredericktown scored seven in the first and four in the second and put runs in the board in each of its four innings at the plate to take the 19-1 win. Mullins gave up an unearned run in the third for Danville’s only tally.

Yellow Jackets win a pair, start season 4-0

Mount Vernon beat Newark on Friday and Hilliard Darby on Saturday, to run its season start to 4-0.

On April 1, the Yellow Jackets scored two in the first and five in the second to put the game out of reach despite a three-run fifth by Newark. Konnae Daugherty got the offense started with a two-run double in the first. Marcus Bradley toed the slab for Mount Vernon, pitching six innings for the win. Beau Bridges closed it out with a scoreless seventh. Bradley also led the Jackets at the plate with three hits (two doubles). Daugherty, Jonny Askew and Owynn Gleason each collected two hits and Daugherty finished with 4 RBIs.

On April 2, Mount Vernon stayed undefeated, besting Hilliard Darby 4-2. Mount Vernon scored twice in the first, surrendered a run in the bottom of the inning but never trailed. Bridges started on the mound for the Jackets, limiting the Panthers to one hit, two walks and a single run in three innings of work., He fanned three. Cash Finnell also threw three innings and allowed only one walk, striking out three. Finnell also led the Jackets at the plate, with two hits and an RBI. Daugherty again drove in the Jackets’ first run, this time with a single, and reached base three times (two walks).

Centerburg explodes early to dominate Northridge, 15-3

The Centerburg Trojans exploded for eight runs in the first and six more in the third and went on to rout Northridge 15-3 on April 2. 

In the first, Dalton Hall, Isiah Reynolds, Caylan LeMaster, Hunter Parker, Dakota Baer and Jesse Rings each drove in runs. Centerburg outhit Northridge 15-3 and was led by Caylan LeMaster’s three hits, and four Trojans collected two hits each as nine batters reached base via hits. 

Seven Trojans drove in runs, led by Rings with four and Reynolds with three. Daniel LeMaster pitched three no-hit shutout innings for Centerburg to get the win, striking out four and walking one.

Golden Knights shut out Golden Eagles, 11-0 

The Northmor Golden Knights outhit the Madison Plains Golden Eagles 12-1 and outscored them 11-0 on April 2. 

Northmor scored two in the first, five in the second and four in the fourth. Northmor’s Griffins Workman held the Golden Eagles to one hit in shutting them out over five innings of work, striking out seven. Workman hit seven batters but threw 51 of his 82 pitches for strikes, including 18 of 31 first-pitch strikes. 

In the game-deciding second, Andrew Armrose, Garret Corwin, Bohdi Workman and Gavin Whited each drove in runs. Max Lower, Armrose, Corwin and Whited each connected for two Northmor hits, and Lower scored three times. Armrose led the Knights with three RBIs.

Pirates score on late error to beat Knights, 4-3

After winning big earlier in the day, Northmor lost on a late error to Cardington-Lincoln, 4-3.

Northmor held a 3-1 lead entering the sixth, and the game was tied at 3-3 when an error forced in the winning run. 

The Knights outhit the Pirates 6-4. Dillon Minturn got the win on the mound for C-L, pitching seven innings and allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits while fanning four. Grant Bentley took the hard-luck loss for the Knights despite striking out 11 and allowing only four hits and only one earned run. 

Bentley also connected for two hits at the plate to lead Northmor. AJ Hall and Wyatt Wade each had two hits to supply all of the Pirates' offense, and Wade drove in two runs.

Bloom Carroll outlasts Scots, 8-5

HIghland fell behind early at Bloom-Carroll High School and could never catch up in an 8-5 loss April 2.

Bloom-Carroll took a 1-0 lead in the first, led 4-2 after three and 6-2 after four. The Scots and Bulldogs traded two-spots in the fifth and sixth and Highland chipped away with one in the seventh. 

The Scots outhit the Bulldogs 8-6, and Zach Pinkerton provided some excitement with a home run and a double, a walk and three runs scored in three at-bats. Six Scots got hits, and Brock Church joined Pinkerton with two hits.
