“We have been very busy at the Laurels,” said activity director Sonjia Allonas. “We have partnered with students from Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) and our residents in doing art projects. We will be doing this for the next four weeks. Our residents greatly enjoyed these enthusiastic students and are eager for the next visit next week.”

Last spring, Allonas said, she took an art class through Miami University called Opening Minds Through Art (OMA). Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she completed these classes online and became OMA certified.

The Laurels of Mount Vernon partnered with Mount Vernon Nazarene University for art classes with residents.

“Our next class will be an Easter-themed 'salt dough' art project,” Allonas said. “Our residents love art and music."

Allonas said, “I also would like to thank my two activity assistants, Dee Wojtseck and Donna Brooks, for all the continuous help.
