Cougars track team performs well in Reggie Thomas Collegiate Classic

The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s and men’s track and field teams competed in the Reggie Thomas Classic, hosted by Tiffin University, on Saturday, Feb. 12, and put in some notable performances.

The women’s 4000-meter distance medley relay team of Morgan Forney, Missy Emery, Ellyn Coe, and Macy Weaver finished first with a time of 13:05.67. Forney finished eighth in the one-mile run with a time of 5:26.14. Coe placed ninth in the 800-meter with a time of 2:29.39.

Top Performers for the men included Erich Rhodeback, who finished first in the 60-meter hurdles with a “B” standard time of 8.33 seconds. With this result, Rhodeback qualified for indoor nationals. The 4x400-meter relay team of Marcus Whaley, Liam Near, Jaden Haldeman, and Isaac Ramseyer placed first with a time of 3:27.93. The men’s distance medley relay team of Colin Gaines, Near, Evan Hodkinson, and Garrett Gemmaka finished second in the 4000-meter race. They finished with a time of 10:39.41.

Justis Paul finished sixth in the mile run with a time of 4:33.36. Hodkinson placed fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:00.43. Ramseyer finished eighth with a time of 2:00.64. Gaines placed 11th with a time of 2:01.03, and Alex Jenney finished 14th with a time of 2:02.52.

Zeke VanArsdalen placed fourth in the men’s pole vault with a mark of 4.11 meters, and Kyler Dickey placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 15.85 meters
