FREDERICKTOWN – Donald Edward “Don” Walters, 91, of Fredericktown passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022, at Knox Community Hospital.
He was born on Sept. 21, 1930, in Paigetown, Bennington Township, Morrow County, Ohio, to Ruth Jessie Walters. Don graduated from Fredericktown High School in 1949 and started driving trucks for Posey Frazier. Don served in the United States Army from 1951-1953 with eleven months' active duty in Korea. He returned from Korea to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where he met and married Joan Clare Hunt on Jan. 26, 1953. Upon his honorable discharge, they made their home in Fredericktown and Don returned to driving trucks for Posey Frazier. Through the following 37 ½ years, Don drove truck for Posey Frazier, then with All States Freight and retired in 1986 from Pacific Intermountain Express (P.I.E). Don was a member of the Ankenytown Grace Brethren Church, Berlin Grange, VFW, the American Legion, Knox County Joint Veteran’s Council Honor Guard and Retired Teamsters Union.
Don is survived by his three daughters, Sharon (Robert) Streby of Fredericktown, Catherine (Ronald) Riel of Amity and Jennifer (Michael) Jessee of Fredericktown; five grandchildren, Sarah (Brian) King, Samuel (Samantha) Streby, Rachel (James) Conner, Dorinda (Jeff) Kline and Jacob Jessee; and five great-grandchildren, Curtis Streby, CaeleeAnn Streby, Emersyn Conner, Jayce Kline, and Henley Kline.
In addition to his mother, Ruth, in 1935, Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, in 2003; his stepfather Lloyd Huddlestun; his half-sister June Johnson; his half- brother Lloyd “Buddy” Huddlestun; his stepsister Evelyn Roof; his stepbrother Donald Huddlestun; and his great-granddaughter Avery Kline.
In keeping with Don’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. The family will observe a private graveside service at the Ankenytown Owl Creek Cemetery at a later date.
