The Mount Vernon Nazarene University cheerleading team competed in the MVNU Invite inside Ariel Arena on Saturday, Feb. 5. Along with MVNU, Bethel University and Point Park University competed in the invitational event. MVNU put forth a huge effort in the second competition of the night. MVNU made the most of the moment, placing first in a cheer competition for the first time in program history.

After placing third in the first event, the Cougars' squad won it by more than two points in the second leg.

“I am so proud of this team and their first place performance tonight," said MVNU Cheerleading coach Melissa Nowicki. “They deserved the win. We fought hard to hit a new pyramid and basket this week. Tonight's win was about execution and showmanship. Every athlete worked hard to hit their skills and you could see that they had a lot of fun doing it. I was also proud of the way they picked themselves up and competed even stronger in the second competition of the evening! We were also happy to honor our seniors Kendra Clark and Jordan Rowden. They have both contributed so much to our program over the last four years.”
