MOUNT VERNON – Rex Lewis Rowley met his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, Jan. 28, 2022, at the age of 85 in Mount Vernon. Rex was a dedicated family man who loved his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his friends who he considered family as well.

He was born in Mount Vernon and moved to Rotonda in 1976 with his late wife, Donna, and their four children. Rex relocated to become the principal agent for Karl S. Shaver Insurance Agency on Beach Road, realizing his dream to move to the sunshine State, eventually starting his own agency, Rowley Insurance Agency Inc. in 1986. He immediately became active in the Englewood community and eventually was elected as the president of the Englewood Chamber of Commerce in 1981. Rex was the driving force for the Englewood community group that brought the Texas Rangers professional baseball team to our area for spring training. Rex was involved in so many local organizations that there would be too many to mention by name. He was awarded in 2017 the honor of becoming a “Smoked Mullet” recipient for all of contributions to the Englewood area.

Rex was predeceased by his late wife, Donna; and his eldest son, Kevin.

He is survived by his sister Virginia “Ginnie” Ann Suitts; three children, William “Craig” Rowley and his wife, Lindsey, Amanda “Mandy” Louise Horan and Michael “Keith” Rowley and his wife, Cheryl. He had five grandchildren, Jodi, Tyler, Kayla, Trent and Cody, along with eight great-grandchildren. Rex moved back to his hometown area in 2016 after meeting his dear companion, Kay Ringwalt of Danville, where he enjoyed being back in his hometown.

A celebration of life will be held in Danville at the Fischer Funeral Home on Feb. 16, at 2 p.m. with services in Florida to follow.

Submitted by Keith Rowley.
