Girls softball registration set for Feb. 16, March 5

Mount Vernon girls softball will be holding registration for the 2022 spring season. Registration is for girls ages 5-16 as of Jan. 1. Registration will be held at the Urton Clock House at Ariel Foundation Park on the following Saturdays: Feb. 26 and March 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A photocopy of the player’s birth certificate must be presented at registration for the process to continue, and masks are required at registration.

Bulldog bowlers win three, run record to 13-4; girls take one of three

The East Knox boys bowling team improved its record to 11-4, defeating Centerburg 2,059-1,901 on Jan. 20. High series went to Dylan Reed with a 387, followed by Lucas Barnard's 361, Will Jensen's 353 and Jordan Hull's 336. Next time on the lanes, following a cancelled match at Mount Gilead on Jan. 24, EK continued to roll with a 2,117-2,041 win over Crestline on Jan. 27. The next day, the Bulldogs won again, besting Northmor with a score of 2,202-1,834, to improve to 13-4 on the season.

For the East Knox girls, a split was a good thing as they split two recent matches, but then fell in the third. On Jan. 20, the lady Bulldogs lost to Centerburg, 1,356-1,604. Olivia Nastasi and Chloe Stevens led the way with a 295 series each. Following a cancellation, in their next match played, on Jan. 27, the EK girls won a squeaker over Crestline, 1,298-1,284. The following day, they ran into a buzzsaw against Northmor and the Golden Knights won 1,824-1,238.
