HOWARD – Students attending East Knox Elementary School, a K-6 school in Howard Township, did better than expected in more grades and subjects than students in higher grades, according to the Ohio School Report Cards for the 2020-2021 school year.
East Knox Local School District students showed more progress than expected in fourth through sixth grade English language arts and fifth through seventh grade math.
They made expected progress in seventh-grade English language arts, lost progress in eighth grade and seemed to pick it back up to more than expected in high school English language arts II. They didn’t do as well in eighth-grade math or high school algebra, though they did as expected for eighth-grade science and high school geometry.
The district scored 80 out of a possible 120 points in the performance index. That was 9.5 points higher than in the previous school year, and only 6.1 points lower than the pre-pandemic year of 2019. The elementary school scored 83.9, whereas the junior/senior high earned 75.9 points.
The 917 students in two schools had an attendance rate of 95.2%. Through the entire 2020-2021 academic year East Knox students attended school in person.
The report card said 10.5% of students had access to a computer at home to complete schoolwork, with the school district providing 6.9% of its students with a computer.
Knox Career Center assessment passage rate high
The Knox County Career Center Schools had its overall assessment passage rate for students at 91%, with 99.6% of students participating in the state’s tests and technical assessments.
Its performance index was a 75.3 out of a possible 120. The index measures results that include biology, American history and American government.
Students from Centerburg Local, Clear Fork Valley Local, Danville Local, East Knox Local, Fredericktown Local and Mount Vernon City school districts participate in the career-technical courses offered in the career technical planning district.
