Lady Scots win, move on to District playoffs in volleyball

The Highland Lady Scots defeated Cristo Rey on Wednesday by a 3-0 score and finished the regular season as undefeated Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference (MOAC) champions.

The Lady Scots, ranked No. 9 in District 2, ran their season record to 20-4 overall and 14-0 in the MOAC with a convincing 25-9, 25-5, 25-7 sweep over the Cougars (5-8).

Highland was led on the court by Kendall Stover’s eight kills. Brooke Schott and Larsen Terrill had six kills each. Emma West combined five aces with four kills and Brylinn Tuggle served five aces.

Stover led Highland this season with 443 kills (46 percent of the team’s total). Brooke Schott topped the squad with 50 kills (44.6 percent of the team’s blocks). Zoya Winklefoos had 51 aces (20.6 percent of the team’s aces). Tuggle recorded 320 digs (26.1 percent of the team’s digs). Ashlynn Belcher had 622 assists (77.9 percent of the team’s assists). Tuggle had 278 receptions (28 percent of the team’s receptions).

The Scots travel to Licking Heights High School next Wednesday, Oct. 27, and will play Granville at approximately 7:30 p.m. in a district semifinal. The other semifinal has Bloom-Carroll playing Hamilton Township at 6 p.m. The winners play Saturday, Oct. 30, at 2 p.m. in the district championship.
