UTICA – A memorial service for William “Bill” R. Belt, 66, of Utica will be held on Thursday, Oct. 14, at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark. The family will receive friends from 1-4 p.m. A Masonic service will begin at 4 p.m. Directly following will be a Christian celebration of life service provided by Pastor Brad Kittle.   

Bill passed away on Oct. 7, 2021, at his residence after a heroic fight with cancer. He was born on April 16, 1955, in Mount Vernon to the late David Ray and Mary Doris (Spray) Belt. 

He was a member of the Grace Pointe Community Church of Utica, Land of Legend Fly Fishers, Licking County Gideons, Sons of the American Legion Post 92, The infamous Coffee Club of Utica, York Rite & Masonic Lodge #291 where he was a Past Master as well as Ambassador of the Valley of Columbus Scottish Rite. 

He started his career with the Knox County Sheriff's Office and retired as the Jail Administrator/Lieutenant after 25 years of service. Throughout his life, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Michelle Belt; step-son, Justin Michael (Karalyn) Young; siblings, Linda Smith, James (Virginia) Belt and Kathleen (Don) Baughman; two grandchildren, Mia June and Zoe May Young; many special nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Shirley Curtis; brothers-in-law, Clint Rardon and Mike (Jayme) Rardon; sister-in-law, Jennifer Rardon; and kidney donor and friend, Denise (Mike) Rowe. 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Roseanne Parkinson; brother-in-law, Steve Smith; father-in-law, Jerry Curtis; and his super cute Jack Russell buddy, Lieuy (short for Lieutenant).
