COLUMBUS – Mary Elizabeth Jones, 96, of Columbus, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2021, at the Kobacker House in Columbus. She was born on July 31, 1925, in Winchester, to the late Edwin and Mattie (Knechtly) Whisner.
Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, and spouse of her late husband of seventy years, Gene. Mary attended Russelville High School, Capital University, where she received an Associate’s degree in business and The Ohio State University where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She was a full-time mother, part-time secretary who loved gardening, golfing, sewing and cooking. One of her many talents was cake decorating. She made several beautiful wedding cakes and taught cake decorating classes.
She is survived by her sons Ronald (Nancy) Jones, John (Ellen) Jones and Alan (Joanne) Jones; daughter, JoAnn (Randy) Kauffman; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Gene A. Jones.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2021, at 11 a.m. at the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, 205 N. Mulberry St., Mount Vernon, OH 43050, with Pastor Jerry Ernst officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
